CAD/CAM technology is one of the best examples of modern technology development in dental medicine. The full name of this impressive technology is dental Computer-Aided-Design/Computer-Aided-Manufacture, which is a computer simulation that enables the design and fabrication of prosthetic restorations (inlays, onlays, crowns and bridges). On account of CAD/CAM technology, we are able to operate even more promptly, efficiently and qualitatively – it is possible to prepare any tooth replacement for implementation in an exceptionally short period of time. For example, it is possible to make a non-metal crown or inlay in only a few hours, while one or two days are necessary for the fabrication of non-metal facets and crowns in the entire jaw.

The process itself of fabricating a replacement using CAD/CAM technology is quick and simple – a DIGITAL IMPRESSION of the tooth is taken with the help of special cameras, upon which those data are computer-processed and converted into a 3D model of the restoration of the recorded tooth. The final phase of the process, which on average lasts approximately two hours, is the fabrication of a ceramic restoration from previously prepared ceramic blocks, which perfectly correspond to the remaining teeth in respect to color and shade. The same is additionally individualized as necessary by applying specific ceramic shades.
CAD/CAM technology follows the natural shape and structure of neighboring teeth in order to create a perfect anatomic form of future restorations, at the same time, conserving tooth tissue. These are also reasons for the increasing popularity of this system.
