NON-METAL DENTAL CERAMICS

Zirconium ceramic

Zirconium is a type of ceramic that because of its exceptional mechanical and aesthetic characteristics belongs at the very top of modern dentistry. Because of its color, which remarkably imitates the natural tooth, as well as its strength, zirconium is being used more often as a substitute for metal and is ideal for the fabrication of aesthetic non-metal crowns and bridges. Likewise, due to the lack of metal, the emergence of a dark edge is prevented, which could occur along the edge of a metal-ceramic crown as a result of a receding gum line. The method of computer-processing zirconium significantly facilitates the placement of non-metal crowns and bridges, which adhere along the edge of the natural tooth much better. In this manner, the possibility of bacteria and food remnants penetrating in interdental spaces is avoided, which ensures easier hygiene maintenance and prevention of parodontopathy (progressive deterioration of dental tissue). Due to the decreased necessity for tooth preparation in respect to classical bridges and crowns, more tooth tissue and nerves are conserved. Other than metal, zirconium is the only material suitable for fabricating large-spanned bridges (4 to 14 pontics).

Pressed ceramic

In Dental Clinic Jelušić, pressed ceramic is also used for the fabrication of aesthetic non-metal crowns and bridges. This type of dental ceramic is processed at extremely high temperatures. Upon melting, the ceramic material is pressed in a specialized press-oven on a tooth model in the laboratory. Pressed ceramic is fabricated in color of the tooth, and conventional dental ceramic is then subsequently applied on the ceramic base in multiple layers. In this manner, using the highest standards of precision and aesthetics, the optimal aesthetic effect of a natural tooth is achieved.

Lithium disilicate ceramic

Lithium disilicate ceramic is also included among the newest dental ceramics intended for the fabrication of high-quality prosthetic restorations. With its exceptional strength accompanied by maintaining its aesthetic characteristics, this material is suitable for the fabrication of non-metal crowns, veneers and inlays in areas where biting forces are most pronounced. Lithium disilicate can be used in the form of blocks for CAD/CAM systems or a press technique form.
